Summary: Kristy Thomas has been doing well since her days as president of the Babysitters Club. It looks like her future is set until a strange man in a magic blue box shows up and changes everything...
Authors' Note: Yet another pairing in the crack series. We found the idea of The Doctor having to put up with the blunt, bossy Kristy to be funny and from there the story grew. If you think that now we are officially certifiable, you're most likely right. This follows the other stories in the crack series: Your Boyfriend Snorts Cocaine, Mary Anne and Wanna Get It On, Dawn?

- excerpt of a chat between Kristy Thomas and Karen Brewer

"I guess we should've made that left turn at Albuquerque," Kristy commented as they stepped out of the TARDIS and into a dank, dark corridor. They'd been on their way to the Amazon rain forest and this definitely was not it.

The Doctor looked at his beloved machine with a hint of betrayal in his eyes. "Why does this keep happening?"

Kristy was about to respond when a blood-curdling scream made them both jump. Without so much as a glance, they both took off running down the hall to the source of the screaming that had ratcheted up a few notches in the space of a few seconds.

"I'll get the ray!" an authoritative voice shouted.

"No! No!!!"

They threw the door open and Kristy was the first one in. A soldier was pointing a scary-looking ray at a man in a tattered uniform, cowering on the floor. The sudden movement of the door flying open startled the soldier, making his finger squeeze the trigger. A bright white light hit Kristy right in the stomach, sending her flying backwards where she struck a wall hard and fell to the ground.

"Look what you made me do!" the soldier shouted at the prisoner.

"Uh... sorry?" the prisoner said, looking shaken.

Groaning, Kristy rolled over. "That is a very solid wall."

The Doctor ran to her side, kneeling over her. "Alright?"

Kristy smiled at him, gently. He was just so adorable with his big eyes and freckles... "Well, at the moment, yes. But I have a feeling once I'm upright, I'll have a wicked head ache."

He helped her to her feet and checked the back of her head for any bumps or cuts. "You're getting to be a magnet for trouble, you know that?"

"Yes." She nodded and then winced when the motion sent a stabbing pain through her head. "Here comes my headache. I'll try not to complain a lot; I know it bugs you when I do."

"Well only because you do it so often," he said with a cheeky grin. It faded when she looked crestfallen, however.

"I'm sorry," she said, miserably.

"No, don't be. If I got into scrapes as often as you, I'd complain too."

The soldier joined them in the hallway, shutting the door behind him. "I'm so sorry, miss! Is she all right?"

"Aside from the headache, I'm fine. Unless my insides are going to shrivel now." She turned to The Doctor in alarm. "Are there inside shriveling rays??"

"Yes, but I don't believe that was one of them." The Doctor looked sternly at the soldier. "What does this thing do exactly?"

The soldier frowned at him. "What's your clearance? I can't release information to civ-" He stopped once The Doctor flashed the psychic paper at him. "It's for interrogation purposes. One hit from this thing and you can't tell a lie for 24 hours."

"Well, that's useful I suppose. No unwanted side effects?"

For a moment, the soldier hesitated before speaking. "Well... it um. Makes you act weird. It gets rid of pretenses so the affected person behaves differently from their usual self."

"But that's only temporary, right?" The Doctor asked, looking concerned.

"Twenty-four hours, sir," the soldier confirmed.

"Alright then, Kristy," The Doctor said, taking her hand. "We'll just have to wait this out."

"Okay," she said agreeably as they walked back down the hall to the TARDIS.

~*~

"I just... can't..." The Doctor trailed off and paused in the middle of fiddling with the TARDIS controls when Kristy came up beside him and rested her head on his shoulder. "Everything ok?" he asked, disconcerted by her behavior.

Eyes closed, she rubbed her cheek against his arm, smiling. "Uh huh."

"Why are you rubbing up against me like a pet?"

"Because I like being close to you," she dreamily informed him, eyes fluttering open to gaze at him, starry-eyed.

"Okay," he said, puzzled. "Hand me that ratchet?"

From the toolbox, Kristy rummaged in it and found what he needed, handing it to him. "There you go." She left a nuzzling kiss on his cheek and he skittered away from her a little.

"Right." Eagerly, he removed a piece of the flooring and hopped down to get at the wires underneath, hoping to find the problem with his ship. He worked for a while and then glanced up to find Kristy sitting down close by, watching him almost hungrily. "Could you hand me a 9/16ths wrench?"

"Sure thing, pretty boy," she practically purred and placed the tool in his hand.

"...Right." The Doctor accepted the wrench and went back to work, even more confused than before.

Smiling lazily, she stretched out on her stomach, propping her head up with one hand so she could continue watching him. "Mmm. Welcome."

This had gone on long enough. The Doctor popped his head up out of the floor, looking at her carefully. "Kristy?"

Her face lit up at having him so close. "Yeah?"

"Is there anything you want to tell me?"

She could think of a million things but figured he had something specific in mind. "Like what?"

"Like perhaps why you're acting very amorous towards me?"

"Because I'm feeling very amorous towards you, silly."

The Doctor stared at her. "You are?"

"Yes. I always do." She tilted her head to the side, regarding him. "I can't hide it today, though. It's verrrry distracting."

"How long have you felt this way?" The Doctor asked, a little overwhelmed.

Kristy took a moment to ponder that. "It's been creeping up on me gradually but I think when... the Androglab hurt me and you were putting a bandage on my chin. I really didn't like you much but... I liked your freckles."

"My freckles?!" he repeated, taken aback.

"Yes. They're adorable." She gave him a dopey smile.

"Thank you?" What else was he supposed to say to that?

"You're welcome." Reaching out, she lightly traced the freckles scattered over his nose and cheeks.

"Umm, ok. Back to work!" He scrambled back under the floor and went back to work, boggling over this turn of events.

"You seem panicked." Kristy sounded amused.

"Not at all. Just making sure the TARDIS is working." He winced over how high his voice sounded and cleared his throat.

"Mmm hmm," she said, not believing him. You don't have to worry about me loving you. I can do it quietly."

Love? "I see," he said, looking up in concern.

"I know that you don't feel the same way. And even if you did, you wouldn't act on it. Because I'm human and my life will fade before you've barely finished blinking your eyes."

"Right." He could feel a pang of sadness just thinking about her gone.

"I've been hoping to meet someone else. So it won't hurt as much." She nodded and added mostly to herself, "And I will. Because the universe is a big place."

The Doctor sighed, not really wanting to picture that scenario either. "You're right; you will. Someone better suited for you than me."

"I don't know about that. In my fantasies, we're amazing together." She went glassy-eyed, no doubt reliving a particular favorite.

"Well there's a reason those are fantasies, Kristy. They wouldn't work in real life." And his self preservation wouldn't allow it; a human woman had already broken one of his hearts and he really couldn't stand it if it happened again.

"I know. But they make me happy."

Sighing, The Doctor went back to work and hoped that she'd go away.

"Doctor?"

"Yes?"

"May I have a kiss?" She held up a finger when he looked up at her, ready to tell her no. "Just one and that'll be it. I promise."

"It's not going to change anything," he warned her.

"I know. But I'd still like one anyway."

He pulled himself out of the floor and sat down across from her, already knowing he was going to regret this. "And what happens if you want another? Not just today, but tomorrow?"

"I promise you that it'll be just one." She smiled sadly. "I can't lie, remember?"

"I know, but I don't want you to be upset because you can't have more." He'd seen Kristy upset about minor matters; he didn't want to picture her upset over matters of the heart. Especially if he was the one hurting her.

"I'll be happy knowing that I've at least gotten one. I'm not going to be greedy."

"Ok, that's good to know." He leaned in. "Just one."

She nodded in agreement. "Just one."

Their lips met tentatively and Kristy made a soft sound in the back of her throat, one of her hands rising up to thread through his hair. He almost pulled back but then her soft little tongue gently teased his mouth, asking for entrance.

Well, if they were only going to do this once, they may as well do it right. The Doctor opened his mouth and stifled a moan when her tongue slipped inside, lightly touching his. She was practically in his lap now and he could feel her pouring all of her love into her kiss, as if hoping to dispense it all inside him so she could be free of it. He gently gripped her hips and kissed back, keeping a curb on his own desire. She couldn't know that he felt the same for her; it would be too painful for the both of them. He had to make his reciprocation look polite and distant and not...

Kristy was the one to break the kiss, shaking. She moved back so she wasn't twined around him anymore, catching her breath all the while. "Thank you. I- I can try to let you go, now."

"Try?" he asked.

"It's going to take me awhile," she gave him an embarrassed smile. "You're my first love."

Guilty, he got up to leave the room. "I'm sorry it had to be me."

"Wait." She caught his hand, looking troubled. "I'm sorry. I never intended to tell you any of this. I'll go. You can..." She gestured at the scattering of tools and the open floor. "I'll just go sleep off the effects of that damn ray and then things can go back to normal, okay?"

"Normal," he repeated. "All right."

Long after she'd left and he was deep into his task, he could still taste her mouth and he already wanted more.

:( The Doctor is so totally gonna be emo. He will swim in a sea of angst and heartache, and will weep tears of woe.

...But other than that, OMG more Kristy/Doctor-ness, YAY!

Noooooooooooooooooooooo............! There must be much more kissing and mutual declarations of undying love, and I demand that it happen immediately. I'll just fold my arms and wait, right here, until it happens. *cough* Just pretend I'm not here and get on with writing the next chapter where that all happens. I'll just be peeking over your shoulders. Don't mind me... *cough*

Complications are nice. They make the happy ending all the more satisfying. :) (though I'm not saying this has a happy ending... and I'm not saying that it doesn't either...)

FINALLY!!! I was wondering if they were ever gonna get to some admital of feelings (is that a word? admital?)

And it was sweet, although hopefully ultimately futile, of him to try and maintain his distance since in his view nothing could happen anyway... although I'm not sure how kissing her would aid to that goal...

The Doctor may not be human but he ain't made of stone, either. When a pretty girl he likes wants to kiss on him, he's not going to argue... too much.
