Okay, straight up: BEST EPISODE EVER.
You know you're in for awesomeness when Amy's giving the dramatic exposition and you get a sinking suspicion that it's about the Doctor and then it turns out to be about Rory Williams: The Last Centurion. And there he is striding onto a CyberMan station (LIKE A BOSS) demanding to know where his wife is, cape swinging behind him. UNF. Is it any secret here that I love Rory? I know I've been playing it pretty close to the vest.
The Doctor put together such an awesome team. I kinda love the 19th century Silurian and her girl Friday in particular. Such a power couple and I kind of want fic right now. Plus the quick random appearance of the space pirates was pretty squee-worthy. (They're literal pirates in space and one of them is a devoted daddy! That's all happy-making in Toxic's playbook.)
I also loved the series of reveals about wee little Melody. First, that she might be a Time Lord. All of us think OH WHAT THE FUCK NO CAN WE NOT GO THERE PLEASE NO ELEVEN/AMY GROSS and then some smart person goes, "Uh, your people became super sonic because you hung out in the time stream a lot. Soooooo, Rory and Amy must've been boinking while you were traveling in the vortex." Then we're all "Wow, plausibility! It's like Moffatt & co. actually thought about this." *coughs and sends a dirty look toward a certain ex producer* Because c'mon, they totally were porking on their wedding night. It's what wedding nights are FOR. Then reveal #2 which... okay, I didn't love that one so much. If my kid ever explodes into sticky milk in my arms, I'm crying the rest of my life. Poor Amy. I burst into horrified tears myself.
And then... Melody is River! (BEN IS GLORY?!) Melody Pond translating to River Song. HOLY SHIT SON SOMEONE HAS BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS FOR AWHILE AND IT CAME TOGETHER PERFECTLY. Seriously, I'm actually pretty jealous of the writing team and their plotting/storytelling skills. Since the names are so similar, it should have occurred to us but it didn't. (In fact, I remember people on some board insisting that River is JACK HARKNESS'S daughter. And I remember thinking that if that were so, Doctor Who and I were going to have to part ways. Whew, I still get to keep my show.) And since I love River, I'm 110% okay with this reveal. I'm so glad I got the stick out of my ass when it comes to our favorite little jail bird.
Of course, there's a whole lot more to her since during the two parter Weeping Angel episode last season, that one guy was really adamant about River telling the Doctor who she really was and plus, hey, why's she in prison? Who'd she kill? We'll have to find out more but finding out that such a wonderful, badass character is the product of my lovely Mr. and Mrs. Pond makes me happy. :)
And really, I have to point to this exchange: "Let everyone else die before us, okay?"/"You're so Scottish." HA, I'm Scottish myself (well, my great grandparents were full Scots at least: Glasgow can I get a what what?) and that's totally what I would've said to Mr. Toxic myself. Sorry, Doctor Debtors, I'm selfish when it comes to me and mah behbeh.
Now we get to sit back and wait for Fall and... apparently we're killing Hitler. Is the Doctor teaming up with the Inglourious Basterds? Guess we'll find out in September!
