Summary: Kristy Thomas has been doing well since her days as president of the Babysitters Club. She's about to graduate from the University of Connecticut and her best friend's finacee can get her a place in the LAPD. It looks like her future is set until a strange man in a magic blue box shows up and changes everything...
Authors' Note: Yet another pairing in the crack series. We found the idea of The Doctor having to put up with the blunt, bossy Kristy to be funny and from there the story grew. If you think that now we are officially certifiable, you're most likely right. This follows the other stories in the crack series: Your Boyfriend Snorts Cocaine, Mary Anne and Wanna Get It On, Dawn?

Chapter Twelve - Robot Invasion

Hey, Mom! Just to give you a heads up, we'll be visiting soon. I have important news for you; be sure to keep an open mind, okay?

- email from Kristy Thomas to Elizabeth Brewer

Letting go of The Doctor's hand, Kristy went to one of the market's stalls and lifted up a shimmering skirt to the light. "Ohh, Stacey would love this!"

"I think it would look nice on you, too," The Doctor pointed out.

Kristy made a face. "I don't really like skirts."

"But skirts and dresses are comfortable maternity ware. You'll have to start considering that, dearheart." He smiled at her brightly.

"Okay," Kristy said, reluctantly. "I'll wear skirts for the baby. But then I'm through!"

The Doctor looked perfectly innocent as he nodded. As Kristy bartered with the seller, he looked around the bustling city they'd been exploring all day. It was mid-sized, in a relatively peaceful quadrant of the universe, and was safe for his pregnant companion. Just as that thought crossed his mind, terrified screams split the air.

"What's going on?" Kristy exclaimed. She dropped the skirt and went to stand at his side as they craned their necks to find the source of the problem. They didn't have to look long; around the corner came a flood of terrified people followed by an army of robots.

"It's always something, isn't it?" The Doctor murmured.

"Are those Cybermen?" Kristy asked.

"No, they're a not-quite as advanced model."

The robots broke their formation and started tearing down stalls, sending the owners fleeing for their lives.

"Oh my god! We have to stop them!" Kristy ran to one of the stalls and grabbed a vaguely baseball bat-shaped object and gave it an experimental swing.

"We? What we?" The Doctor stared at her in disbelief. "You've got to get back to the TARDIS!"

"What?! But- I'm better in a fight than you are!"

"I can't risk anything happening to you." He grabbed the weapon from her hands. "Either of you."

Remembering her pregnancy, Kristy looked down at her belly. She was just starting to show slightly. "Oh. Well, we're not leaving you, either."

"I can handle myself just fine. But if you're here, I'll be too concerned with keeping you safe, and that's where I'll be off my guard and vulnerable. Please, for our whole family's sake, get to safety. I won't be far behind."

Kristy nodded seriously. She still didn't want to leave him, but knew that she was responsible for more than her own life now. "Okay. Please be careful."

The Doctor kissed her gently, placing a hand on her stomach. "I will be. Now go."

She hurried away but made it only a dozen steps before one of the passing robots swept her up over its shoulder in a fireman's carry. "Oh, great!"

"Oh, bloody brilliant," The Doctor muttered and hurried after them.

Slung over the robot's shoulder, Kristy was on eye level with its back panel. She managed to get her pocketknife out and started to jimmy the panel off, exposing the wires inside. "What wires do I cut??"

"The red and yellow ones should do the trick." The Doctor whacked a robot in his way with the bat and it went down. Interesting.

She started sifting through the wires and quickly encountered a problem. "Doctor! They're blue and green!"

"Ah, not good," he murmured to himself before calling to her, "Cut just the blue one then. It won't stop it, but it'll take down its defense system."

Kristy sifted through the looping wires before finding a blue one and she quickly cut it. "Okay! Um. He's still going and this position hurts."

"I know! Be there in a tic!" The Doctor ducked a swing from another robot and bashed it over the head. With that one out of the way, he hurried until he was just behind the one carrying Kristy. "He may drop you. Prepare yourself."

With that, he leapt in front of the robot and with an almighty swing, he took the thing's head off. The robot took a few more steps, wavered, and then clattered to its knees.

"Eeep!" Kristy fell to the ground but twisted herself around mid-air to land on her back, mindful of the life she was carrying inside her.

The Doctor carefully helped her up. "You okay?"

"Yeah, I think so." She pressed a hand to her belly automatically.

"We should get back to the TARDIS. From there I can come up with a better plan on how to stop these things."

Holding hands tightly, they ran back to the ship, careful to stay in the shadows.

The Doctor was busy typing at his computer, Kristy hovering just behind his shoulder with a pensive look on her face.

"Doctor, is something like that going to happen again?"

"What, with the robots invading? Yes." He tapped a few more keys and then pointed at the screen. "Look at this. Rival markets send out these robots to rough up the competition. No one ever gets seriously injured but it puts them out of business for a few days. Completely insane." He shook his head at the preposterous concept.

"No, I mean, when something dangerous happens, you send me back here and you try to face it by yourself."

"I'm not just trying to protect you now." He turned to face her, tone gentle. "I know you're too stubborn to sit on the sidelines, but we have to think about our son."

Kristy bit her lip a moment. "Then maybe you should take me back home. I can't... I can't stand aside and let you put yourself in danger."

"For how long?" he asked, face blank.

"Until the baby's born?"

The Doctor nodded. "Alright. But I'm staying with you."

Kristy's face lit up. "I was about to ask just that."

Smiling, The Doctor said, "I wouldn't go traipsing around all space and time while you were at home waiting to give birth."

"Yeah. You love me too much." Kristy smiled back.

"Very true." He turned to the controls. "Now: Connecticut?"

~*~

As expected, Kristy's mother had been upset by the news that her daughter was having a child out of wedlock with an alien. Understandable. But once she'd calmed down, she'd started to warm to the idea of becoming a grandmother again, and once she'd been reassured that the child wouldn't have any tentacles, she'd started suggesting OB-GYN's for Kristy to go to.

The Doctor sat outside on the back porch swing, looking out across the yard at the sunset. Kristy's mother was still treating him coldly, but she'd never been a huge fan of his anyway so that was hardly any different from usual.

Hearing the backdoor open, he turned to see who was about to join him and smiled when he saw Kristy. He held his arms open wide for her and she nestled into his side, tucking her head under his chin.

Unconsciously, his hand slid down to rest on her belly, marveling for what had to be the millionth time that she was carrying his child.

"Nick!" Kristy said, suddenly.

"Nick?" The Doctor repeated, confused.

"That's a great boy's name! Nick Thomas."

The Doctor rolled his eyes and was then relieved that she couldn't see him. "Nick is what happens when I shave. Next!"

"Matt! Matt Thomas. Wow, he sounds like he'd be a basketball player, doesn't he?"

"What about Dax?" The Doctor suggested.

Kristy sat up to give him a baffled look. "Like rolodex?!"

"What? No, not Dex, Dax."

"No, that's too weird. John? Johnny!"

"Ugh, too plain. Perhaps... Ruath? That's a nice Time Lord name."

"What's your Time Lord name?"

The Doctor sent her a look. "It's the Doctor. Moving on, ooo, what about Straxus?"

"That'll get him beat up on the playground, dear. "

Not the only one starting to feel frustrated, The Doctor rubbed his forehead and sighed. "Well we don't have-- didn't. Didn't have names like you do on Earth."

He started to look sad and emo, and Kristy was conflicted, still feeling annoyed with him while having sympathy for his lost people. The thought gave her sudden inspiration and she let out a loud gasp, hands flapping with excitement. "Oh! OH OH OH!!!"

"Yes?" The Doctor said, looking skeptical.

Proudly, Kristy took his hands and placed them on her belly. "Gallifrey."

The Doctor looked down at his hands. "You want to name him after my home planet?"

"It sounds neat. It's a tribute to your people and we can call him Frey for short so he'll fit in here, too."

Thinking it over for a minute, The Doctor smiled. "I think it's a perfect name for the last of the Time Lords, excluding myself of course."

"Yeah?" Kristy asked, sounding excited. "We have a name?" She cooed down at her belly, ""You have a name now, little guy."

The Doctor rubbed her tummy happily. "Gallifrey."

oh that's so cute that they're calling him Gallifrey! How sweet! Somehow the fact that Kristy's mum's never liked him seems really cool... I'm not sure why, but it's just perfect for your fic! But she's still all supportive! I love how protective he is of her!

Heee, it probably seems right because in the new series, the mothers of his companions haven't liked The Doctor much, either. He just doesn't seem to get along well with the mommies...

Hahha I consider my mother pretty open-minded but I think she'd have a mild coronary if I revealed such a thing to her. XD

P.S. You know The Doctor was already a father and a grandfather don't you?

Sorry, Doctor Who is one of my BIG fandoms (along with Naruto and Firefly).

Yes, I know he's been a father before and we plan on bringing that up later in the story.

Neither of us have been able to see every single episode of Doctor Who ever, since there are so many and the BBC lost several episodes; we're not going to get every single detail right. When in doubt, we go and visit the Wiki to get the info we need. But for the most part, this is a totally silly and ridiculous fic that we enjoy writing and our number one priority is to have fun. After all, we're shipping the poor Doctor with a character from The Babysitter's Club of all things. If that's only going to frustrate you (and it seems that it has) then maybe this really isn't the fic for you and you can save yourself some annoyance by just stopping here.

Oh, no, I quite like the series. Very funny. I like the part with Dawn and Kevin talking using the giraffe and the kitty. Very amusing. I just thought it was a little wierd, you know, The Doctor already being half human and having had kids once before and it just seemed a little wierd that you'd gloss over those 'facts' when they could play such big parts in the story. That is all. I'm not annoyed, just curious.

Hey there. *waves* I'm the co-author of this little crackfest here. I just wanted to let you know that while we are taking some liberties with canon Doctor Who, it's because it's fan fiction, and it's fun. While I like pairing him with a companion, I highly doubt he'd be in a serious romantic relationship on the show (though how they tease us with the constant hugs and handholding!).

As I'm sure you know, the Doctor is the master of withholding information, or letting something slip and then ignoring it, which is why we haven't addressed the 'father' issue yet.

So it's all in good fun, and we appreciate you reading, but we're Who fans ourselves, and we'll take care of our good Doctor and keep him in character as best we can.
