toxic_corn: Summer Glau is pretty. (chipettes: eleanor - meme time!)
Meme from [livejournal.com profile] moetushie

Pick 10 of your favorite books or series.
Post the first sentence of each book. (If one sentence seems too short, post two or three!)
Let everyone try to guess the titles and authors of your books.

1. Once on a dark winter's day, when the yellow fog hung so thick and heavy in the streets of London that the lamps were lighted and the shop windows blazed with gas as they do at night, an odd-looking little girl sat in a cab with her father and was driven rather slowly through the big thoroughfares.
2. When I stepped out in the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home.
3. On September 15, 1981, a boy named Jack Sawyer stood where the water and land come together, hands in the pockets of his jeans, looking out at the steady Atlantic.
4. When he was nearly thirteen, my brother Jem got his arm badly broken at the elbow. - To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee ~ guessed by [livejournal.com profile] okegirl
5. There was no possibility of taking a walk that day.
6. It was a nice day. All the days had been nice. There had been rather more than seven of them so far and rain hadn't been invented yet. - Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett ~ guessed by [livejournal.com profile] mystic_notions
7. It's hard being left behind. I wait for Henry, not knowing where he is, wondering if he's okay. It's hard to be the one who stays. - The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger ~ guessed by [livejournal.com profile] mystic_notions
8. I was born twice: first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day in January of 1969; then again as a teenage boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, Michigan in August of 1974. - Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides ~ guessed by [livejournal.com profile] mystic_notions
9. My father had a face that could stop a clock. I don't mean that he was ugly or anything; it was a phrase the ChronoGuard used to describe someone who had the power to reduce time to an ultraslow trickle. - The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde ~ guessed by [livejournal.com profile] may_b_maybe
10. On the whole, we're a murderous race. According to Genesis, it took as few as four people to make the planet too crowded to stand, and the first murder was a fratricide.

ETA: Real conversation...
Me: *using Eleanor "meme time" icon* I love using this icon.
Mr. A: What's it from?
Me: *incredulously* The Great Chipmunk Adventure. It's Eleanor the Chipette.
Mr. A: *blank stare*
Me: You've never seen The Great Chipmunk Adventure.
Mr. A: ... No.
Me: What the fuck is WRONG with you?
Mr. A: D:

We must remedy this. Is the Great Chipmunk adventure on DVD? *investigates*

The first TEN people to comment in this post get to request that I write a drabble/fic of any pairing/character of their choosing. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level. (If you can't write, I'm sure you can make something else.)

[I just ask that you stay in fandoms I have at least SOME knowledge of. Like requesting something from the CSI franchise or Battlestar Gallactica will get a helpless shrug from me. Also, you don't HAVE to repost this if you don't want to. I hate these bossy memes that try to force you to do shit but hey, I wanted to give fic a shot since I've been sort of scared of writing since NaNoWriMo was so friggin' intense.]

Yes, Eleanor, it is indeed meme time. My mom isn't picking up the phone at home and Mr. A isn't answering his texts, and Facebook/Yoville broke my computer earlier, and I don't feel like writing so here we go! (With no one responding to my phone messages and the apartment complex being so silent, it always makes me think the zombie apocalypse went down and I'm just sitting here twiddling my thumbs. I'd so survive a zombie apocalypse because everyone ignores me. :/ Even zombies.)

So, stolen from [livejournal.com profile] areyousaved

Comment with your favorite song lyric/movie or tv quote and I'll ask you five questions. Questions about anything. Then you can post the same thing in your journal!

Finally got LJ to work! I already blogged over at FaceBook but now I feel like doing a meme. It's not really a happy meme either. I'm only doing this because I have feelings that I don't want to take with me into 2009 and I want them out right here. I've seen this meme done before but I can't remember the format. All I know is that you tell five people things you've never had a chance to say to their face. I'm leaving comments off because I don't feel like soothing anyone's fears that I mean them. None of these are about anyone on my f-list.

1. I'm sorry that all of your childhood memories of me are bad. I swear that we had a lot of fun times together but I guess the bad times made more of an impression on you. If I could take back the things I did and said I would.

2. You're the most loathsome human being I've ever been forced into contact with. Yet I dread the day that I get a call telling me you're dead. I want to see you again but I'm not really sure that's the best idea. Especially since you've made such a strong effort to hide yourself.

3. I hate you and every assholish thing you've ever said to me or about me. And yet I thank you, because it took you kicking me while I was down to realize I needed to make changes in my life so people like you wouldn't make me hate myself. As a result, I've changed up nearly every aspect of my life and I'm happier for it. So thank you for being a total shithead. You saved my life even though that was never your intention.

4. I regret never getting to say goodbye to you. I'm sorry. I love you and you made my life such a bright, happy spot for a time.

5. You missed out. SUCKER.
toxic_corn: Summer Glau is pretty. (LazyTown:stephanie - crazy)
A. People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blog and replace any question that they dislike with a new, original question. Who ever does that?
B. Tag eight people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you.

Survey Questions )
toxic_corn: Summer Glau is pretty. (billie piper: glasses)
I named 50 US states in 10 minutes How many US states can you name in 10 minutes?

I can't believe I forgot New Jersey for awhile. My boyfriend only grew up there. *face palm* Also, make sure there's no space at the front of the state name or it won't be accepted. I thought I was misspelling California until I realized there was space at the beginning.

[01] -- Look up TEN of your favorite movies on IMDB.
[02] -- Click the "trivia" link in the sidebar.
[03] -- Post a fun and random bit of trivia from each film.
[04] -- Tag five people!

1. The Princess Bride: Writer William Goldman was on set during one of the flame burst scenes in the forest when Robin Wright Penn's dress caught fire. Although Goldman knew this was intentional, he was so caught up in the moment that he shouted, "Her dress is on fire!", thus ruining the take.
2. The Shawshank Redemption: In the scene where Andy arrives in the library as Brooks' assistant and Brooks' crow Jake is squawking, Tim Robbins had to time his line, "Hey, Jake. Where's Brooks?", so that the crow wouldn't squawk over his line, since the bird could not be trained to squawk on cue. Robbins was able to adapt to this and time his line perfectly from learning the bird's patterns in squawking, for which Director Frank Darabont praised him. Robbins's improvisation is noticeable, and we can see that when he walks into the room right up to the crow, he waits a short moment for it to squawk while looking at it, and then proceeds with his line after it does so.
3. Ferris Bueller's Day Off: Cindy Pickett and Lyman Ward, who played Ferris's parents, married in real life after filming this movie.
4. Fargo: The snow plow that drives past the motel at the end of the film was not part of the script. Signs in the area warned motorists not to drive through due to filming, but a state employee ignored them.
5. Adventures in Babysitting: Elisabeth Shue landed the lead role after Jodie Foster and Justine Bateman both declined.
6. Midnight: When Billy Wilder and Charles Brackett turned in their script, the studio liked it, but felt it needed some work. The writers they hired to rewrite the script were: Billy Wilder and Charles Brackett. The studio sent them their own script to rewrite without knowing it. Wilder and Brackett simply retyped their original script and the studio loved the "rewrites" so much, they produced it with no further "changes".
7. Dodgeball: Norm MacDonald can be seen in some of the Globo Gym scenes. One is in the Globo Gym commercial. He is in the background working out. At one point he is talking to some girl who is working out and it looks like he's hitting on her.
8. Superbad: According to the DVD commentary, the night that Evan (Michael Cera) describes to Becca early in the movie is "beat by beat" what Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and their friend Sam Fogell did when they were in high school.
9. Enchanted: The wedding dress that Giselle wore weighed 45 pounds. A stunt double taught Amy Adams how to move in the dress.
10. My Cousin Vinny: When Vinnie is trying to explain his "real name" to Judge Chamberlain, he knocks over the Judge's chessboard. This was accidental, but director Jonathan Lynn thought it was so funny and authentic, he decided to leave it in the film.
